No, it's not the latest strain of the Ebouli virus, but it's just as contagious.
Your Disease is an original alternative-metal band that is creating quite a buzz in the DC/Maryland/Virginia music scene. Their sound has been compared to such heavies as Alice in Chains, Sabbath, Godsmack and Nirvana. However, most listeners agree that YD's collective sound and songwriting style is distinct. The band offers a fresh twist to the current offerings played on modern rock radio.
"Afflicted," the opening track on YD's four song demo, captures the essence of the band's distinct sound: Gem's impassioned, gutteral, in-your-face vocal stylings backed by the stinging twin guitar ensemble of Gem and fellow bandmate Damcik, with a solid rhythmic punch provided by bassist Bianchet and drummer Goat. The swirling Leslie guitar tones in the intro to "Stranger," the demo's second track, provide an eerie backdrop to this catchy, churning number which delves in the murky reality of life, as it may seem, as seen through the eyes of a paranoid schizophrenic. On "Free Again," YD displays its lighter side and penchant for fusing thoughtful lyrics and infectious melodies into an accessible, radio-friendly tune that does not compromise the band's hard-edged sound. The demo's closing number, "Drain," showcases YD's ability to amp-up on the aggression factor into an orchestrated fury that would provoke even the most reticent listener to dive into the midst of a whirling moshpit.
While each member of YD is an experienced, accomplished musician and performer, the focus of the group is one thing. Gem explains, "It's all about the delivery of the tune - we want to draw the listener in and take them to the place we were when we write or perform our stuff. While the CD does a decent job of capturing some of what we're all about, the only way to truly appreciate what we're doing is to come check us out live." And the band seems to be hitting the mark.
In addition to continuing to expand its local fan base, the band's current goal is to find professional management and legal representation to navigate the band to its ultimate goal of landing the right recording, publishing, and distribution deal.
